The Healthy Living Programme (HLP) team recently completed a successful trip across Shetland, bringing the Welby Breakfast experience to schools throughout the region. From April 20th to April 24th, team members Kathryn, Yvonne, and Gillian visited various local primary schools to share nutritious breakfast options and educate pupils on the importance of starting their day the healthy way.

In total, the team served 786 pupils over the course of the week. The events featured a menu of fruit pots, Weetabix, and toast topped with banana, providing pupils with a fun and educational introduction to healthy breakfast options.

The trip also marked a significant expansion for the programme, with 19 new retail stores joining the HLP on various plans. Each of these plans is specifically designed to empower retailers to offer healthier options and engage more deeply with their local communities.

The journey began on April 20th at Scalloway PS and Urafirth PS, followed by visits to Tingwall PS and Happyhansel PS on April 21st. Mid-week, the team met with pupils at Hammavoe PS, Lunnasting PS, and Nesting PS. The journey continued to Aith PS and Ollaberry PS on April 23rd, concluding on April 24th at Cunningsburgh PS, Sandwick Junior High, and North Roe PS.

This massive undertaking was made possible through strong community partnerships. Most events were supported by the Co-op, while the final day involved collaboration with Spar Scotland and Spar Sandwick. These partnerships ensured that every pupil reached had access to healthy resources and the knowledge to make better breakfast choices.
