HLP and Scotmid served 650 Welby Breakfasts at Dundee’s North East Campus. The event featured brain health workshops and a visit from Gladiator Saber.

On the 11th and 12th of February, the Healthy Living Programme (HLP) visited the North East Campus in Dundee to support the joint health week for Longhaugh Primary and St Francis Primary schools.
The event focused on the link between nutrition and education, centred around the delivery of 650 Welby Breakfasts to pupils across both schools. This initiative was coordinated in partnership with Scotmid and the Scotmid Community team, led by Lynne Ogg and HLP's Gillian Edgar.
A key element of this event was the inclusion of Scotmid’s charity partner, Alzheimer Scotland. To help pupils understand the importance of long-term brain health, the charity provided an inflatable brain as an interactive learning tool.
Pupils participated in practical sessions where they made healthy smoothies specifically designed to support brain function, reinforcing the message that dietary choices have a direct impact on physical and mental wellbeing.
On Thursday, the schools welcomed Saber from the TV show Gladiators for a guest appearance at the assembly. Saber spoke to the pupils about the practicalities of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, sharing insights into her own daily routine, her approach to fitness, and the importance of a consistently balanced diet.
The success of the two-day event relied on the collaboration between the school's development team (the "ladies in pink"), the SGF Healthy Living Programme, and the team from Scotmid.
Reflecting on the partnership, Lynne Ogg, Scotmid’s Head of Membership & Community Engagement, noted:
"It was incredible to see the SGF team in action. The energy, the connection with the pupils, the ability to make health messages land in a way that feels real and relevant… community engagement at its best."
The event successfully demonstrated how retailers and schools can work together to provide practical health education to students in a clear and relatable way.
Connect your school or store with the community while promoting nutritious choices for children. The food is all provided by the local retailer or symbol group.
